The Beginning

This project first came to Naomi in late Fall 2025 while she was sweeping her kitchen in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Lost in her imagination—while still diligently sweeping—she began to see thousands of letters.

She imagined workshops with young people and old people, middle-aged people, urban people and rural people, artist people and every which-way people. She imagined gatherings with friends, friends-of-friends, and friends-of-friends-of-friends. She envisioned workshops with schools and organizations, and in partnership with specific communities.

She imagined being with landscapes that are loved, landscapes that have been wounded, and landscapes at risk of being lost. She imagined creating space for grief and praise, and above all a way to draw strength from something powerful in a time that feels challenging.

She pictured meandering journeys—by car, by bike, by boat, and on foot. These trips, powerful in and of themselves, would become opportunities to witness the mysterious and magical connection between humans and the land.

She sent James Dufficy, a 25 minute audio message, and the seed was planted!
