Cultivating the Commons Skill Share

This is a monthly resource and skills-share group that explores the history and practice of common land-stewardship and other inspirations that help us envision a future built by community and shared resources, rather than individual accumulation of capital.

The Commons (n) -

Cultural and natural resources that are collectively managed/used for the mutual benefit of all members of a community, rather than privatized for individual gain. Common land-stewardship was practiced across pre-Europe and is still practiced by indigenous peoples across the world.

Third Sunday of each month | 6 - 7:30 pm (Mountain Time)

Meetings will be held in person when possible, but joining online will always be an option.

About

Like a book club, each month, myself or another member of the group will select content for the group to read, watch, listen to before we meet to offer some content to digest and discuss in a community. These could include:

  • a short read from a book, an essay, a story, or poem

  • a podcast

  • a movie

  • just about anything, so long as it’s related to collective action and community resilience

Unlike a book club, the monthly time-commitment for group content will aim to only take a couple of hours. The goal is to invite folks to participate and not to assign extensive reading assignments.

If you are interested in contributing, but don’t have a specific text (etc). in mind, then we would also love to include:

  • Guest speakers who are doing inspiring work in their community

  • Tangible skills that empower mutual-aid
